    Hiking

    The area offers a choice of long and short walking trails along a spectacular coastline of volcanic sand beaches and rocky outcrops. Mountain hikes include the thrilling ascent of 1069m Mt. Búlandstindur, offering breathtaking views.


    Guided tours are available all year round, with the minimum of at least a two hour tour. Bookings are to be made with at least one week's notice. 

    Northern Lights

    The Northern Lights are visible during the dark days of Iceland's wintertime. The ideal time period to enjoy the lights is between the end of September to Mid-March.


    Djúpivogur is an ideal location for Northern Lights gazing.

    We recommend checking out The Aurora forecast before heading out for a photo hunt.

    Angling

    The friendly staff at the hotel can arrange angling excursions. Choose between sea angling and shore angling. It is easy to access series of generous fishing places from Djúpivogur.

    • Sea angling trips are a minimum of 4 hours and the boat is rented with its captain.

    

    • Shore Angling is a new type of angling, in which you are equipped with a special fishing pole to catch fish right from the shore. 


    You can rent all equipment needed for such an experience.

    Wildlife

    Djúpivogur harbors rich and varied wildlife, from seals dwelling in the fjords, to the birds in the lakes and reindeers coming from the mountains in the fall and winter. All this can be observed with short walks from the village. 


    The area also offers one of the best locations to immerse yourself in the area's birdlife in one of the many bird huts situated near the lakes, attracting a number of bird enthusiasts and photographers every year..

    Visit Langabúð, the local history museum with a special exhibition dedicated to the works of local sculptor Ríkharður Jónsson and village handcrafts.

    Gleðivík Eggs

    Eggin í Gleðivík is an outdoor artwork by Sigurður Guðmundsson, one of Iceland's most renowned artists. The works consist of 34 egg replicas from as many nesting birds in Djúpivogur.
